Use of Dental Bridges to Restore the Smile After Tooth Extraction or Loss

How Do Dental Bridges Work?

Dental bridges are created to replace one or several missing teeth in a row. They are fabricated from porcelain and are made with a dental crown on each side. The bridge is put in place to essentially “bridge the gap,” using surrounding teeth for support. With natural teeth remaining on each side, patients can use the bridge and restore the smile’s function, health, and appearance. Dental bridges look entirely natural, as they are custom-made for the patient to blend in with the color, shape, and size of their existing teeth. In some instances, patients who want single tooth dental bridges but don’t have surrounding teeth might consider using a dental implant on one or both sides. Dental implants can be used to anchor the bridge while also helping maintain the bone of the jaw.
