Guided BIofilm Therapy

Smiling woman

Guided Biofilm Therapy is a gentle and thorough method of removing plaque/biofilm from the teeth. It spreads a gentle, slightly warmed spray on the teeth that minimizes the use hand scaling and ultrasonic instruments (although they are still utilized to a lesser extent). Minimizing instrument use provides a more comfortable and effective cleaning for patients who may experience some anxiety with traditional cleaning methods. The gentle spray can also safely clean dental implants and cleans more thoroughly around braces for patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. It is also much more effective at removing stains due to coffee, tea, red wine, or tobacco because the spray is able to access the spaces between teeth more readily. Since the air polishing does not come into direct contact with the teeth, patients tend to feel less sensitivity with Guided Biofilm Therapy.

Dental biofilm is the main factor for cavities, periodontal disease, and peri-implant infections. Periodontitis is known to increase the risk of certain systemic diseases like cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, arthritis, and diabetes. Improvement of your hygiene habits along with Guided Biofilm Therapy can greatly reduce the amount of biofilm and provide better oral health. This gentle cleaning is aimed to be effective at providing better oral health without damaging your natural teeth, crowns, fillings, or implants.
