Nonsurgical Face Treatments for Smoother Skin

Are you dealing with wrinkles, fine lines, hair loss, and other common dermatological issues? If so, did you know that leverage your body’s natural healing abilities to turn back the hands of time and look younger? Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy, or PRP treatment, is a nonsurgical facial treatment created from your blood. Utilizing your platelets can boost collagen production to rejuvenate your skin. We offer more than just dental care at Greenbelt Dental Health in Austin, Texas. We have helped many patients look and feel better with the help of PRP treatment.

How PRP Works

Patients undergoing PRP therapy will first have to give a small blood sample for the procedure. This sample is run through a centrifuge where the platelets and plasma are separated from red blood cells and white blood cells. The isolated platelet-rich plasma is then collected and re-administered to the skin during treatment.

PRP For Skin Rejuvenation

PRP therapy has been shown to help patients achieve skin that is tighter and smoother, improving tone, texture, and scarring. This is because platelets rich in growth factors play an essential role in the body’s healing process. When injected into the skin, the growth factors spur the production of new collagen, reconstruct damaged tissue, and increase blood circulation.

The Procedure

Once the PRP is separated from your blood sample, it will be turned into a series of injections. A topical numbing cream can be applied to the treatment area to make the procedure more comfortable. The injections are administered in the desired area. After the injections are complete, less concentrated plasma can be applied to the skin. A handheld microneedling device with multiple sterile needle tips is guided around the treatment area. The needles create tiny, controlled tissue injuries in the skin to stimulate the PRP, spurring repair and growth. The entire procedure of PRP with microneedling takes

about 15 minutes.

Mild swelling and redness are common after treatment and can last 1-3 days. Some patients may also experience mild bruising, which will resolve in about 5-7 days.

Results

Because PRP skin rejuvenation triggers the body to repair and remodel the skin structure, the results are not immediate. Generally, skin tone and texture improvement can be seen about 3-4 weeks following the first treatment and will continue to improve over time. Multiple sessions scheduled every 1 to 2 months are recommended for optimal results.
